Speaker Ryan Press Office
The bipartisan budget agreement is absolutely critical for our national security, disaster recovery, and other Republican priorities. It is the result of six months of efforts to secure funding for our military, and it will allow Congress to end the cycle of governing by stop-gap measure and move on to other important agenda items. It also has meaningful budget offsets, including structural reforms to mandatory spending programs. Here are five reasons why it is so important:
LITTLE ROCK – In December, Democrat Party of Arkansas Chairman Michael John Gray made the following statement regarding the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act:
“Corporations will get the tax cuts, and we're asking our children to pay for them. What the GOP is doing is worse than fiscal irresponsibility -- it's fiscal insanity. Republicans in Congress believe if we give these big corporations more money, it will trickle down to the working class, which is simply a myth that has been proven untrue time and time again.” Interestingly enough, the tax plan is already putting more money in the pockets of Americans. The Arkansas based company Wal-Mart, the largest employer in the US, has announced that employees will be receiving bonuses and increased starting pay. They join literally hundreds of other major corporations that have reinvested capital into their employees solely due to the new tax plan. Also, the CBO reports that the average middle-class American will see thousands in tax savings come their tax return this year. Jobs, check. Tax cuts, check. Republican Party of Arkansas Chairman Doyle Webb made the following rebuttal as more companies give back to their employees at a dizzying rate: “The Democrats believe in higher taxes, more fees, more fines, more regulation, and heavy government oversight. The Republican Party has always operated to alleviate those burdens on the American people. With this tax plan we have done just that, as well as stimulate the economy toward what is turning out to be a very prosperous future for all Arkansans and Americans.” United States Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) will be the featured speaker at the Greene County Republican Committee’s annual Lincoln Day Dinner on Friday, January 19 at the Paragould Community Center, 3404 Linwood Drive, Paragould.
A first-term Senator from Yell County, Cotton currently sits on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, where he chairs the Economic Policy Subcommittee, and the Senate Committee on Armed Services, where he chairs the Air Land Power Subcommittee. Senator Cotton graduated from Dardanelle High School, Harvard University and Harvard Law School. In 2005, following a clerkship with the U.S. Court of Appeals and time in a private law practice, he enlisted in the United States Army. Senator Cotton then served nearly five years on active duty, serving in Iraq with the 101st Airborne and in Afghanistan with a Provincial Reconstruction Team. Between his two combat tours, Senator Cotton served with The Old Guard at Arlington National Cemetery. His military decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, and Ranger Tab. “It is an honor to have Senator Cotton attend our Lincoln Day Dinner,” Greene County Republican Committee Chairman Anita Wells said. “I look forward to hearing an update on current affairs in Washington and the direction of our nation.” The Greene County Republican Committee’s Lincoln Day Dinner is open to the public. There will be a VIP Reception with Senator Cotton beginning at 5:30 p.m. Silent auction bidding will also begin at 5:30 with dinner and program at 6:30 p.m. Individual tickets are $50 with table sponsorship available for $400 (includes eight dinner tickets.) VIP reception tickets are $50 each and do not include dinner. In addition to Senator Cotton several state and local candidates will be in attendance. Tickets and sponsorships are still available. Paragould, AR – To celebrate National Library Week April 9-15, the Greene County Republican Committee donated a book chronicling the history, effort, and success of the Republican Party of Arkansas to the Greene County Public Library. The book, “The Heroes and Heroines of the Journey: The Builders of the Modern Republican Party of Arkansas,” authored by Dr. Ken Coon, is a historical look at the political and communal endeavors of Republicans across the state.
Republican Party of Arkansas Chairman Doyle Webb applauded this gesture: “The success and growth of the GOP is largely in part because of our local committees. We are proud of their work and glad to see them share the history of this transformative occasion within the community.” The Greene County Republican Committee hopes that the service of this book can educate Arkansans on the history of the GOP, and pay homage to the commitment of Republican community leaders that have donated their time and effort to improve the lives of Arkansans. Greene County Republican Committee Chair Anita Wells expressed her enthusiasm in stating, ”I hope this book will be a great addition to the library for those interested in learning how the Republican Party of Arkansas has evolved.” Additional copies of “The Heroes and Heroines of the Journey: The Builders of the Modern Republican Party of Arkansas” have been donated to Paragould High School, Greene County Tech High School, Marmaduke High School and Crowley’s Ridge Academy. The books are currently available for purchase for $50.00 at the Republican Party of Arkansas’ website www.ArkansasGOP.orgor by visiting the RPA Headquarters in Little Rock.
